Key characteristics into Metal magazines

I wanted to do some more research in to my genera of music (Metal) so I went and bought three Metal magazine of which the music I was featuring would also be featured. These were Kerrang, Revolver and Metal Hammer from looking at these I have noticed a few generic characteristics which I need to make sure I have. One thing I noticed while reading them was there contrast between headings and the text while the photos and headings were very messy and eye catching the text often tended to be very plain and simple not to the extent of being very formal but not was it the same style as the headings. Another thing I really picked up on and want to try to include was the very artistic and graffiti like effects they use to add depth to the page though using lots of layers.
